The Scientific Benefits of Nature: Why do we get kids outside?

Recently Farrington’s Program Director reviewed relevant research on kids and nature, collecting the most current studies that document the benefits of getting children out into nature. What we found confirmed that our program provides exactly what youth, particularly youth from urban, low-income communities, need! As Farrington plans for expansion, we want to be sure that we are engaging in best practices for programming so that we can provide the children who come to our property the best visit possible!

The bottom line is that the research shows that time in nature, even brief single visits, has a beneficial impact. The research also shows that greater impact is possible with longer visits or repeat visits.

The research is shown below as a graphic but there is also a link to download a pdf file.
