Margaret Fuller House and Cambridge Community Center, both longtime summer camp visitors,  came out to Farrington Nature Linc this February Vacation Week.  A total of 32 children and 9 adults visited. Both groups had a blast on their first visit to Farrington in the winter.  They each enjoyed a day of adventures, with plenty of time sledding and playing in the snow, and a new experience  snowshoeing out to the pond.  Hot chocolate and a warm fire warmed bodies and dried socks as groups took a break from a full day outside.

Each group also got to test out new tracking skills and search for animal tracks on the trail.  We identified lots of deer tracks, along with squirrels, and birds.  We even noticed a likely deer bed, underneath a low-hanging spruce branch!

We asked the campers what their favorite part of their day out at Farrington was and most said sledding (with a strong contingent for hot chocolate).  There were also a couple each day for whom the highlight of the day was their winter trek on snowshoes.

It’s not hard to see why- a chance to explore new territory and to learn more about the animals in the winter.  At the end of the day, the phrase we heard most often was, “Can we stay longer?”
